LSCI is trauma-informed care in action! Alex Cameron, Director of Clinical Services, Pressley Ridge

LSCI Training in Vermont & New York City

The LSCI Institute has been busy this winter, offering training throughout the Northeast. Here’s what some of our training participants in Hartford, VT and New York, NY had to say about their recent training experience:

Describe the significant learnings you are taking away from this course:
The importance of listening to students and getting a real timeline of events in order to solve the problem and move forward.

I learned how to methodically lead a student through an intervention and how to diffuse or de-escalate a situation (hopefully)!

There is always a reason why children behave the way they do and we should not just assume that they are bad children but rather that they are using self-defeating behaviors.

The main thing I am taking away involves the Self-Defeating Behaviors vs. Bad Behaviors. I think this will be really helpful with those students who are challenging.

How do you see yourself using the information and skills you’ve attained?
I see myself using the skills I have gained here everyday as an Assistant Principal as I often work with students in crisis.

I will use this knowledge everyday because of my duties as a paraprofessional. I work with students that have strong behavioral backgrounds.

I see myself using it as I debrief with students.

I’ve already used it! We have many students who require this type of support in order to be successful at school.

What would you change about this course?
Nothing. I felt it was very effective.

Nothing other than the length of each class was long for those of us that live far away and having two classes in one week due to snow days was rough. Nothing can be done about it other than not running it in the winter. It was still worth it though!

Nothing at all. The trainer’s were highly knowledgeable and approachable. They did an excellent job presenting the material and being equal participants during the presentations.

What, if anything, would you like to learn as a follow up to this course?
I would love to get a refresher of this course in a year or so. (We offer an online Refresher trading program! Check it out here!

Ken did a fantastic job and is incredibly knowledgeable about the course!

Ken is extremely knowledgeable and is able to draw upon his wealth of experience which was super helpful for me as a student.
