Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) is a guide for therapeutic dialog which empowers young people stuck in patterns of ineffective behavior patterns with
personal insight, self-awareness, and motivation to change. LSCI was developed by child psychologist Dr. Nicholas Long as an immediate support for young people during the ordinary conflicts of everyday life. It has roots in the concepts of ‘life space’ from Curt Lewin and the the ‘life space interview’ from Fritz Redl and David Wineman who were the first to document using moments of crisis as learning opportunities and a core therapeutic component of care.
Participants in this session will be introduced to:
Course elements include didactic instruction, group discussion, video examples, and small group practice.
LSCI has been proven to be helpful as an early intervention as well as in times of crisis and follow up after an incident. Several research studies have evaluated the efficacy of LSCI and demonstrate it is effective at reducing disruptive behavior (Grskovic & Goetze, 2005), replacing coercive and exclusionary interventions (Beck & Ricciardone, 2003), and promoting social-emotional development (White-McMahon, 2009).
Training Dates: October 4-5, 18-19, 2018
